In this tutorial, we'll show you how to create a screentone in Photoshop using the
Screen Mode and the
Filter Gallery. Screentones are great for adding textured backgrounds to your designs, and they're easy to make!
First, open up your image in Photoshop. We're going to be working with this image of a stone wall:
Next, go to Image > Adjustments > Desaturate. This will remove all the color from your image, leaving you with a black and white version:
Now go to Image > Adjustments > Invert. This will invert the colors in your image, so that the dark areas are now light and vice versa:
Next, go to Image > Mode > Screen. This will change the way that Photoshop interprets the colors in your image, making it more suitable for use as a screentone:
Now go to Filter > Filter Gallery. This will bring up the Filter Gallery dialog box, which contains a number of different filter effects that you can apply to your image:
For our screentone, we're going to use the "Texturizer" filter effect. So select that from the list on the left, and then choose your settings on the right. We're going to use these settings:
- Texture: "Canvas"
- Scaling: "100%"
- "1 px"
(This is where you'd add your conclusion)
