How to make a mood board in Canva
- Start by creating a new Canva account. If you don’t have one already, head over to www.canva.com and sign up for free using your email address or social media account.
- Choose “Create a design”. Once you’re logged in, select the “Create a design” option from the homepage.
- Pick the right size for your project. For most mood boards, we recommend choosing the “Custom size” option so you have plenty of space to work with. Then enter the dimensions you need or select one of the preset options.
- Select a background. Next, it’s time to choose a background for your mood board. You can keep things simple with a solid color or pattern, or upload your own image.
If you decide to go with an image, make sure it’s high quality so it doesn’t look pixelated when blown up to fit your canvas. We also recommend choosing an image that has some empty space so you can easily add text and other elements later on.
When picking out colors for your mood board background, consider how they will affect the overall feel of your design. For example, warmer colors like red and orange tend to be energizing while cooler colors like blue and green can be more calming.
If you want more control over the colors in your image background, try using Canva's Magic Resize tool. This way, you can adjust the hue, saturation, and lightness until you find something that works for your project.
