Is Snappa or Canva Better?
As a graphic designer, I am always on the lookout for new tools to make my workflow more efficient. When it comes to creating simple designs for social media, my go-to tools are Canva and Snappa. In this article, I will compare and contrast these two tools so that you can decide which one is right for you.Canva is a free online design platform that is beloved by many for its simplicity and ease of use. With a library of built-in templates and easy drag-and-drop tools, Canva is an accessible option for those with limited design experience. Snappa is a paid tool that offers more advanced features, such as the ability to create designs with transparent backgrounds and access to a library of high-resolution stock photos.
Both Canva and Snappa offer a wide range of pre-made templates for common design needs, such as social media posts, infographics, and email headers. However, I find that Snappa’s templates are generally more visually appealing and better organized than Canva’s. With Snappa, it’s also easier to find the right template for your needs because you can search by platform (e.g., Facebook) or design type (e., post).
When it comes to creating custom graphics from scratch, both platforms offer an array of built-in shapes, icons, and fonts that can be used to create simple designs. However, I find Snappa’s interface to be more intuitive than Canva’s. For example, in Snappa, you can easily add text to a photo by clicking on the “T” icon in the left sidebar; in Canva, you have to first upload a photo before adding text.
Another area where Snappa shines is in its ability to create designs with transparent backgrounds. This is a handy feature if you want to create graphics that can be layered on top of other images (e., product photos). To create a design with a transparent background in Canva, you have to first export the image as a PNG file; in Snappa, you can simply select the “transparent background” option when exporting your design.
Finally, one of my favorite features of Snappa is its library of high-resolution stock photos. With over 1 million royalty-free photos available, it’s easy to find professional-looking images to use in your designs (without worrying about copyright infringement). Canva also has a library of stock photos, but it only offers low-resolution images unless you upgrade to their paid Pro plan ($12.95/month).
So which tool is better? It really depends on your needs as a designer. If you’re looking for a simple platform that is easy to use and offers basic features like built-in templates and drag-and-drop tools, then Canva is a good option.
If you need more advanced features like transparent backgrounds or high-resolution stock photos, then Snappa is worth the investment ($10/month).
